Troubleshooting - ALTERNATORS ...
Below are the most obvious Defects with it's Cause and Remedy.
| DEFECT |
CAUSE |
REMEDY |
| The alternator does not excite |
- Demagnetized machine.
- Reduced speed.
- Faulty rotating diodes.
- Failure in the windings.
|
- Apply to the terminal a DC voltage of between 6-12 V for a second.
- Check the speed and bring it to the rated value.
- Check and replace.
- Check the windings resistances per the table.
|
| Low no-load voltage |
- Reduced speed.
- Faulty rotating diodes.
- Wrong capacitor value.
- Faulty windings.
|
- Check the speed and bring it to the rated value.
- Check and replace.
- Check and replace.
- Check the resistance per the table.
|
| Too high no-load voltage |
- Excessive motor speed.
- Wrong capacitor value.
|
- Regulate the motor speed.
- Check and replace.
|
| Correct no-load voltage and too low full-load voltage |
- Probable overload.
- The engine speed slows down.
- Faulty rectifier bridge.
|
- Check the load current.
- Check engine dimensions.
- Check and replace.
|
| Unstable voltage |
- Loose connections.
- Irregular rotation.
|
- Check the connections.
- Verify the rotation uniformity.
|
| Machine overheating |
- Partially obstructed ventilation openings.
- Probable overload.
|
- Remove and clean the air inlet and outlet grids.
- Check the load current.
|
| Noisy machine |
- Faulty bearings.
- Faulty coupling.
|
- Check and replace.
- Verify and repair.
